The Workplace hazardous materials information system has been in use in Canada since 1988. WHMIS is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. In February 2015 , WHMIS became WHMIS 2015 after the adoption of the Global Harmonization System. The transition period is now over and all industries must meet the new standard. All Canadian workers who could be exposed (directly or indirectly) to hazardous materials must therefore take the WHMIS 2015 training.
